Listen Later

Here we’ll narrow our focus to the Spanish and Portuguese conquest, administration, and reform of Latin American government and society at large. I’d like to re-establish our setting by placing this portion of history and its focus into the broader historical context for two reasons. First of all, this will help you to further appreciate what we mean by contextualizing and secondly, it will help you to understand how the developments taking place in Latin America make sense because they are grounded within a larger picture that helps to shape the course of history in this region during this particular time period.
