Riker has this old man's name, and his dad has this young dude's name. So strange! Oh! Right, yeah, well anyway, we also learn that Worf ( and Klingons in general) might have some sadomasochistic tendencies - I know, colour me shocked! - and that Riker is an angry, angry man deep down...hence the trombone, I suppose?....
