In technical terms and for those who are sticklers and puritans, whatsapp is not a ‘social networking’ tool like Facebook and Twitter due to its private and intimate nature, but a text messaging service ( with additional as dead as a door-nail features like sharing pictures and videos) that requires internet. It is a boon for individuals who travel frequently;  they are saved from buying sim cards specific to the country, and instead use this service for calls and texts. Whatsapp is now ironically used as a noun.
