The Crafty Hive

Episode 22 - Craft on a Budget

Listen Later

Welcome back! Thanks for joining us for Episode 22.

For this episode we're discussing planning and making sound decisions when crafting with a budget in mind. As usual, we'll also be catching up on our regular segments for WIPs, FOs, and Stash Enhancements, too.

Remember we're hosting a hat KAL to celebrate 1 year of Podcasting Fun! The KAL is running from 10/15/2017 to 11/30/2017. Rules and requirements are posted over in the Ravelry group. There is currently 1 prize up for grabs (but we might add more!). Greg Cohoon (aka KnittingDaddy) of the Unraveling Podcast has generously offered a copy of his new hat pattern Thundertwist as a prize for 1 lucky KAL participant. Thanks Greg!

Don't forget to take advantage of the generous coupon code from Silly Sheep Designs. Our listeners can get 10% off any purchase of $10 or more with the code thecraftyhive. Thanks Wanda!

All of our show notes are given below, with information and links to what we discussed in this episode. Let us know if you can't find any information you need.

As always, we would love to hear from you! Is there a topic you would like us to discuss next? Are there any excellent tips or items we should check out? Please feel free to leave a comment, contact us on Ravelry (either by message or in the group), or drop us a note through the Contact page.

We hope you enjoy the episode. Please stay tuned for more crafty goodness, coming to your earbuds soon!

        Pattern: Thundertwist by Greg Cohoon
        Yarn: Jojoland Baritone in "892"

What We've Finished (a.k.a. FOs):

  • Dana
    • A whole bunch of math problems :( (stupid actuarial exam!)
  • Kristi
    • Knitting
      • Cons-tern-ate
        Pattern: Constellate by Hunter Hammersen
Yarn: Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in "Tern"
    • Sewing
      • Kristi finally sucked it up and added a tab to the zipper on the project bag based on the noodlehead tutorial. This is a prize donation for Greg and Joey of the Unraveling Podcast in support of their county fair KAL.

What We Couldn't Resist (a.k.a. Stash Enhancement):

  • Kristi found a new-to-her LYS called Piney Creek Yarn. Everyone there was really nice and helpful. Kristi picked up a faux fur pompom and some Stunning yarn destined for Holiday Swaps from Knerd String, a Colorado dyer.
  • Dana picked up a few goodies at SAFF (while sticking to her budget! shock! awe!), which included two skeins of Interlacements Lacey Merino, the Fibre Studio at Yarns to Dye For SAFF gradient "Nantahala", and the Miss Babs SAFF 2017 color way on Hot Shot fingering base. She also nabbed a ball of Lollipop Yarn's Quintessential Base in "Catawampus" at Black Mountain Yarn Shop

Where We'll Be (Upcoming Events):

  • 11/16 - Pints & Purls Charlotte @ Free Range Brewery
