Video arcades always created a unique social environment with players of all ages and walks of life bonding over their common love of the flickering screens. In 1987 a new element was introduced that started a shift in the types of interaction that players would have. The multi button fighting game allowed players to challenge others head to head and started to take over the turn based video games of the day. In this episode we talk about all the fighting games that we played and spend extra time talking about the big two, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. We discuss in great detail just how big of a train wreck the Street Fighter movie starring Van Damme actually was. All this and so much more right here on this episode of Retro Renegades Pop Culture Power Hour, now with even more Gene Simmons! (thanks Rex!)
