In this episode of the Hybrid Cloud Forecast series, Andre talks with Donna Dillenberger, IBM Fellow, CTO IBM Cloud Systems Research. Donna shares her definition of Cloud native and how that paradigm has driven development DevOps practices -- specifically how we build applications, connecting Cloud APIs and flowing data through the Cloud services. Together, Andre and Donna discuss the implications of serverless computing. Donna explains that with serverless, the application developer no longer has to worry about storage, network, and compute resources. But that means the underlying infrastructure becomes even more critical as it needs to sense the changing workloads and adapt accordingly, driving even more demand on infrastructure. She contrasts this Cloud behavior with mainframe systems that are elastic by design and even suggests that the mainframe is the first cloud computer. Donna describes her current work on pervasive AI with AI accelerators, that deliver fraud detection, stolen identities, trade optimization, and medical imaging, which enables AI to be truly deployed in production in the Cloud.
