A rich man runs to Jesus asking how to inherit eternal life, proudly reporting he has kept all the commandments since childhood. Jesus, looking at him with love, tells him he lacks one thing — sell everything, give to the poor, and follow him. The man walks away sad, unable to let go of his wealth. Jesus tells his stunned disciples that it’s harder for a rich person to enter God’s kingdom than for a camel to pass through a needle’s eye — but with God, all things are possible. Anyone who gives up everything for Jesus will receive far more in return, and in God’s kingdom, the last will be first.
