Over the last decade, Iconoclast Artists has worked with thousands of students across Houston and Galveston, many facing poverty, food insecurity, and instability. Through writing workshops, mentorship, and public performances, the organization helps students turn their experiences into art—and in the process become published authors.

Bill shares how poetry can become a tool for agency, describing writing as a way to “throw a blanket over the ghost”—giving shape to experiences that once felt overwhelming. Claudia explains how the organization has grown from a small experiment into a program that has served more than 8,500 students and families, produced hundreds of published young writers, and now celebrates its 10-year anniversary.
