So, let me tell you more about the cruiser (not battleship) Indianapolis than you probably think you need to know!
In the Navy of WWII, Cruisers were known as the “greyhounds” of the sea. They were built for speed and not as heavily armored or armed as a battleship.  Heavy Cruisers were named for major cities and state capitals.  Battleships were named for states. Light or (AA/Cruisers) were named for minor cities or towns. 

One ☝️ of their tasks was to screen or protect the carrier force. At the time, our aircraft carriers were among the fastest vessels 🚢 in the fleet.  (they had to be to launch aircraft)
