Episode #23: Re-Imagining the Two Party Political System

Listen Later

One thing that has become apparent is absolute power vested in our two political parties has proven our democracy to be un-democratic. The rhetoric from the mouths of the RNC and DNC is more Stalin-esque in their angry diatribes targeting the 'the other side' than the voice of an open democracy.Polls consistently show voter trust in politicians is at an all-time low, as well as the belief 'our vote matters.' Yet, the incumbent reelection rate is above 90%. The system is broken. Politicians party-line vote on nearly everything, and we do not believe they represent, 'we the people,' but instead, represent the party and their self-interests. If a politician stays compliant and obedient, they are continually re-elected. It is not uncommon to see them in power for 20, 30, or even 40 years as long as they tow the party line. If they dare to challenge 'the party,' they often find themselves ostracized. This is not a democracy. There is nothing in our constitution that says the RNC or DNC must rule the government. It's time for the dissatisfied masses to consider other options. This podcast discusses the problems and potential options in America for taking back the government form the political parties and returning it to the people.
