Episode 23: Talent Is Overrated, Grit Is What You Need

Listen Later

On this week’s episode of the unscathed life podcast, I am talking about the last of the five pillars of Living Unscathed and I elaborate by doing a book review on one of my all-time favourite books “Grit” by Angela Duckworth.

Angela, who is considered the world’s leading expert on “Grit" sees grit it as the core ingredient in personal success. She defines grit as passion and sustained persistence applied toward long-term vision or goal.

The cornerstone of Angela’s message is that that natural talent is hugely overrated, and perseverance is what we need to support our achievements in life.

On today’s show I discuss the central themes from the book “Grit,” and explain how it supports you in Living Unscathed and manifesting your highest self.

Key Highlights of this Episode are:

  • “Talent is overrated, perseverance is what you need. Effort is twice as valuable as talent”. (6:51)
  • “By creating and sticking to your low-level goals, you can realise long term goals and keep your dreams alive.” (8:59)
  • “Be loyal to your goals” (10:10)
  • No matter how much grit you have, if you want to stay motivated, it is important to do work that interests you (10:30)
  • The importance of thinking and reflecting on what you are doing to help you avoid repetition and sustained negative results  (12:18)
  • How perspective is shaped when you see your work as a calling (16:47)
  • How you can foster a culture of “Grit” in others (17:34)

This episode will challenge you to be more ‘gritty’ as you keep striving to be the very best version of you there is.
