The basic rules of Kindred survival having been established, Ivy and Schmendrick turn their education efforts to matters of the Blood. The trio departs for a familiar abandoned grain silo where Alex learns the full spectrum of his new abilities -- and their costs. The young vampire is forced to confront both rage and hunger as Cain's curse makes its demands, events which lead to the most important vampire lesson of them all: the danger of the Beast when left unchecked.
