Show 233 – Recorded 10-14-23 – Today we feature 14 early blues artists with recordings made from 1925 – 1930. These recordings were made in the very early days of recorded blues and have been edited by others to substantially remove the old hiss and static. Some of the artists featured today are still recognized as being among the most legendary blues and gospel artists ever and others are much less known but, all are great blues artists. The artists we feature today are: Hersal Thomas, Dora Carr and Cow Cow Davenport, Washington Phillips, Blind Willie McTell, Barbecue Bob, Gladys Bentley, Blind Willie Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, Roosevelt Sykes, Elizabeth Johnson and King Oliver, Pink Anderson and Simmie Dooley, Whistlin’ Alex Moore, Clara Smith and Lonnie Johnson, Son House.
