Episode 234 Show 234 – Recorded 10-28-23 – Today we are fortunate to welcome back our friend, Dr David Evans to enlighten us on the Bentonia Blues, a regional sub-genre of the greater blues we love. In addition to meeting and working with Bentonia’s legendary Mr Skip James, David explored this area for other blues artists who played in the Bentonia Blues traditions. In 1966 he found a true diamond in the rough with Mr Jack Owens, who spent most of his life in the country outside Bentonia, Mississippi. On this podcast, Dr Evans shares a great deal about Bentonia Blues and Mr Jack Owens while entertaining us with a selection of Mr Owens field recordings David made in 1966 and 1970. Please Give Listen.
