In our podcast episode “Raphael: Misleading or Devotional”, we answer the question: Are Raphael's depictions of the apostles, and particularly of St. Paul, true? False? Informative? Misleading? We first started by providing some background information on Raphael including some of his paintings. Then we continued by analyzing one of his paintings “St Paul preaching at Athens” in order to answer the question. Based on the background information on St Paul and Raphael's Style which includes the emotions he likes to depict in his paintings, we were able to conclude that his representation of St Paul was informative.
