Data Centers don’t just spring up overnight, like mushrooms in your front yard.

Your electric dishwasher uses more current than any data center. The reason it has a heating element is to ensure sanitizing of the load. The hotter the water, the faster it dries.

It’s a variation on the electric “vampire” theme of yesteryear… You know those always-on devices, like your home fax, incandescent light bulbs, clothes dryer, phone dock (remove the battery first), TV, and microwave clock. 

The common denominator for reducing electric usage is HEAT. You can defeat those “vampires” by using a power strip and turning those devices off when leaving for extended periods.
