Episode 24: Marijuana Impairment Training

This course will discuss marijuana as a drug and distinguish the impairing substance located in the marijuana plant. We will provide an understanding of impairment and how marijuana affects human performance and the central nervous system. We will provide some of the tests used to assess impairment and what clues to look for. Finally, we will provide the signs and symptoms of marijuana impairment that can be observed so that we can act against drug abuse in the workplace, schools, and community.

Guests: Joe Hendricks, Drug Recognition Expert

Joe Hendricks has been employed as a State of Wisconsin sworn police officer since 2005 and currently works as a Lieutenant for a Milwaukee Metro Police Department. In 2007, Joe enhanced his knowledge, skills, and experiences greatly with the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) training that he received through the International Association of Chiefs of Police. This training continues to be used in the field to perform systematic 12-step drug influence evaluations on suspected impaired individuals. For the last ten years, Joe has been a training consultant for the State of Wisconsin where he teaches courses to both sworn police officers and citizens regarding drug impairment training. In 2010, after two years of continuous graduate studies, Joe earned his master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati. Joe has a passion for teaching and speaking about drug impairment. This led him to start his own consulting business in 2018 called DART Safety Solutions whose mission is to be proactive with education. Joe continues to provide professional drug abuse recognition training (DART) around the state of Wisconsin to community members and public safety professionals so that we can act against drug abuse in the workplace, schools, and community.
