Episode 24: New Christian Hard Right Media in the 1950s/60s and the Dark Side of J. Howard Pew/Religious Charities Smuggling Money to Holy Warriors
This episode continues a lengthy series reviewing a key historical section of the founding of conservative Christian media from Dr. Bennett's last book, "Two Masters and Two Gospels, Vol. 1: The Teaching of Jesus Vs. the "Leaven of the Pharisees" in Talk Radio and Cable News," of which more about it and its availability can be found here. It introduces additional national Christian players promoting Christian big-business capitalism in the 1950s and 60s, such as media mogul Carl McIntire, alongside oil man J. Howard Pew, whose legacy of overt fascist insurrection involvement in the 1930s is briefly discussed. The "Contemporary Intelligence Briefing Case File" gives examples of organized religious groups exploiting non-profit status to support violent holy wars, including an example of Ultra Orthodox charities in the US providing support to the Ultra Orthodox assassin of Israeli Prime Minister Rabin.
