We follow Mina, Dakota Fanning, an American woman in her late 20s who relocated to a small Irish hamlet from her binary family and other relatives. She spends most of her leisure time alone herself, attempting to put her horrific past—which includes her mother's death and her involvement in the automobile accident that killed her when Mina and her siblings were young girls—behind her. She spends her days helping to pay the bills by working at a pet store, and her leisure time is spent pursuing her creative goals. Mina's understandable sense of hopelessness, which she carries with her every day while living her life, repeating her history and changing herself, is eloquently captured in Swaying.
