Hello and welcome back to The Groomer Next Door Podcast. This week we're joined by Shannon from Slobbered Lens. There is no one who loves you as fully. There is no one who reads you as well. There is no one who “gets" you like your non-human family. That space in your heart deserves a place on your wall. This is love you want to see every day, no matter what. These days you think more about what life will be like without your companion. You sat on a plastic chair in the emergency room or your veterinarian's clinic and tried to process a life-limiting diagnosis. Maybe your companion enjoys excellent health and yet is nearing or past the end of textbook life expectancy. You are thinking about difficult decisions that might be coming up.That's heartbreaking. It also allows a fierceness of love that you may not have experienced before. You treasure things that you hadn't noticed. You delight in behaviors that used to be minor annoyances, knowing that the time is coming when you will yearn for one more afternoon to share the sofa and feel the warmth of the creature who loves you so very much.I want to honor that love and your relationship so you have it to look upon every day in your home or office; it takes up big real estate in your heart and that’s something you should see show up in your home. I create wholehearted portraits that honor the best of your companion and will transport you every time you see them - you’ll smell those well-traveled paws, feel those velvety ears, and hear the contented grunts as you scratched in just the right place. It is your love in art, just as it should be.
I create portraits and tell stories of companion animals living with serious illness or advanced age on film. I also create mixed media art pieces and graphic art, and those pieces are possible to create without a photography session.
Let's talk through what you have in mind. We'll get to know each other, share ideas, and talk about how to immortalize your love in art
Each one of my families receives abundant grace, adoration, and patience. Since 2005 I've provided hospice care to eight of our nine animal family members. While I won't claim to know how you feel, I appreciate how overwhelming and conflicting this time is, physically, mentally, and emotionally. When time allows for a separate meeting, we'll get together to talk about your incredible relationship, what kind of art you envision and where, and what kind of experience would be most meaningful for you. I'll want to hear stories that are hilarious and I'll also cry with you when you get to the hard parts. It's important for me to come to know you both so I can create the art that reflects you both.It can be hard to predict which days will be good days for comfort; for the best experience, it is better to schedule when the good days far outnumber the really hard ones. In other words, call me before you think you need to call me.Sometimes these sessions must happen with little notice and a consultation isn't possible. You can trust me to follow my gut and document your last hours together with an open heart and tears. The $250 creative fee includes a consultation, camera time, and a session to review your photographs and order your art. The average client invests $2,000 in art beyond the creative fee.
Hiya! I’m Shannon, the human behind Slobbered Lens. I have the privilege of reflecting indescribable human-animal bonds through art, and I cannot think of a better way to invest my skills and talent in the world. The love and history you have with your beloved are a huge part of who you are today, and that deserves celebration. I am eager to hear your story.
