The Bible often illustrates the Christian life as a battle against sin and Satan. We are soldiers of Christ in spiritual warfare. In Ephesians 6:12, the apostle Paul writes, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”  Given this, we are told in Ephesians 6:11 to “put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” Paul then goes on to describe the various pieces of that armor: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit. But note that these pieces of armor come from God and it is only in His power that we can be successful in the cosmic conflict between good and evil.
