Bloom Where You're Planted

Episode 25 - Dr. John Lorentz Pt. 2

Listen Later

This week on the podcast we pick up part two of your conversation with Dr. John Lorentz.

We talk in depth about how his documentary River Voices grew from a simple idea of collecting the stories of those who experienced the 1937 Portsmouth, Ohio flood to donate to the local library, to becoming a years long project culminating in a documentary film that continues to be aired on PBS 20 years later.

We also discuss the community significance and importance of connection in documenting and telling stories, and how those stories have a reach beyond the local community they come from.

Dr. John H. Lorentz is Professor of History Emeritus and Associate Provost for International Education at Shawnee State University. He and son, Nathan, collaborate through Lorentz Films on documentary film. Dr. Lorentz is the principle scholar for River Voices and Beyond These Walls and is the Producer for the films.
