Episode 257: A Chat with Fantasy Author, N. Ford

Listen Later

As N Ford and I chatted about her debut novel, The Refuge and its upcoming sequel, I had one of those amazing moments where the more an author talked about her work, the more excited and eager I was for it. Compared by some to a clean,  Christian Game of Thrones-esque political fantasy, to me it sounds like an incredibly relevant and exciting novel for today.  Listen in and see why.

Can You Guess Why I'm Excited to Check Out this New Series?

Songwriter N Ford didn't set out to write a political fantasy series, but when her children's series on the fruit of the Spirit morphed into something far more than she'd planned, I for one am glad that she kept going with it. Based on our conversation, I expect the books will explore found families, the strength in diversity, and just where our privilege really comes from--all in a story that doesn't sound heavy-handed at all.

Also, those twists!  I don't know about you, but I am dying to see if I can see them coming!  EEEP!

Her second book is releasing this fall, so stay tuned for preorder information and all that jazz!

The Refuge by N. Ford

In a world that has ever only known war, generations still swing their swords on whispers of conflict from centuries past.

In Physis, the law of the land is 'every territory for itself.' Lineage is everything; racial identification is paramount; and territory loyalty is the code by which one lives or dies. But when a few individuals decide the given system isn’t working, everything begins to change.

What will happen to the world when inherited authority is questioned; when standards of judgment are re-evaluated; and when independent thinkers redefine purpose for a new generation of leaders?

In The Refuge, by N. Ford, readers travel from the snowy mountain estates of The Diamond Isles to the clay arenas of a warrior's life in Agon. They sail the Physis Sea, chasing mystery and meaning, and swim in the clear pool at the bottom of the Western Bay. Readers will meet love, loss, and sacrifice anew, while discovering what purpose can do when it’s authentic and hard-won.
