With growth, comes growing pains. As the early church was growing faster than the disciples could keep up with, complaints began to come in that the Hellenistic Jews were not receiving food from the charitable donations. The current leadership structure, was no longer effective and so it was time for a change. From this, the first seven deacons were appointed and a distinction was made between the role of pastor and the role of deacon.
