There is a group of people in China known as the ‘left-behind’ children. In the rural, poorest areas of China, the parents of these children tend to leave home to work in the bigger cities. They may not return home much (measured in months and years) but they will usually send money home on a frequent basis. This is their way of offering better support to their families but it inevitably leaves a lasting impact on the children who are growing up without the love and care of their parents.
