Best known for his post-impressionistic art, Paul Gauguin’s legacy has been too-long romanticized. He was, at best, an artist on a lifelong quest to find inspiration in the lives of people indigenous to Caribbean and Polynesian Islands. More realistically, though, he was a floundering artist who appropriated cultures and preyed on children.
