Too many of us hear the word bulk and automatically think fat gain and loss of aesthetic physique. Yes some fat gain is a part of the process, but you are simply increasing your overall body size, and muscle density when done correctly.
We all (EVEN WOMEN) are encouraged to do bulking phases in their fitness journey, if there goal is to be lean, strong, and have shape or be "toned".
