Episode #27: Bonus Author Interview with Mari Eygabroad

Listen Later

Do you get excited about books you can’t put down? Me too! In between podcast seasons, I’ll be creating bonus author episodes from time to time to help you find refuge in His Word through new, must-read books to add to your reading stack.

Today’s guest is Mari Eygabroad who recently published her first book, Living Uprooted: Encouragement for the Missionary Wife. I connected with her recently in a Bible study group and am SO excited for you to meet her!

In this episode we discussed:

  • African geography (Mari lives in Lesotho—pronounced ‘Les-oo-too’—a country surrounded on all sides by South Africa).
  • We discussed the story she called a “God-sized edit" of her life that sent her as a missionary wife to Africa—including her pastors’ matchmaking efforts.
  • A few of the many challenges missionary wives face as they prepare to go abroad including complications and fatigue, the difficulty of good-byes, spiritual warfare, loneliness, the importance of making connections ahead of the move, and culture shock
  • The importance of TRUST in God through the challenges she’s faced as an expat
  • She gives a sneak peek of the proof of the paperback of her book!
  • You can grab a copy of the ebook on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Redemption Press.

If you’d prefer a paperback copy for yourself or to send to a friend preparing to head into the mission field (or is already there and needs to know she isn’t alone), it should be available by June 2022.

You can connect with Mari at https://marieygabroad.com, on Instagram @marieygabroad, and Facebook @marikeygabroad.

Bio: Mari served as a missionary for over eight years in Africa with her husband, a pilot/mechanic with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). She is a stay-at-home mom and homeschools her two children. Before moving overseas, she worked as a Massage Therapist, Personal Trainer, and Physical Therapist Assistant. She planned on using those skills in ministry overseas, but God had a different path for her. During their first few years living in Africa, their family faced many hardships and tragedies. She felt unequipped to properly handle some of the difficulties she had gone through. After searching for resources that could have prepared her for what she experienced, she found nothing published that could have helped prepare her beforehand. God put it on her heart to write the book she wish she’d had. Her heart is to encourage and equip other women preparing to go into missions.
