Episode #27: Flexibility and Appreciation

Listen Later

Welcome to the 25th Hour Podcast – where successful business owners talk about the magic of creating a 25th hour every day! We've all been there - your calendar is in great shape. Your to-do list is done. You are in the zone . . . All your balls in the air are being easily juggled. Then....something changes, and suddenly chaos reigns! This podcast will help you learn to up-level your time management strategies so you can get back in control of your day – and make an extra hour, your 25th hour, a reality - every day.

Today’s guest is Rachel Kabb-Effron. Rachel has owned the Kabb law firm since 2001. She holds a Bachelors in Political Science from the University of Cincinnati and law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. She is a Certified Elder law attorney from the National Elder Law Foundation and the Ohio State Bar Association. She is a member of the adjunct faculty at her law school. She enjoys theatre, dancing, and singing in her spare time. She has been married to her husband since 1996 and has two daughters.

In this episode, we discuss the delicate balance between setting boundaries and staying flexible, why “No” is a complete sentence, and how to find your productivity “sweet spot”.

Time Management Strategies for Success:

  • Finding the Sweet Spot - “One of the best things I’ve done is finding that sweet spot in my day when I’m most productive and filling in everything else around that window.”
  • Setting Boundaries - “Probably the biggest thing that I’ve learned in my career is that “No” is a complete sentence. Sometimes we’re so worried about losing a case or a client that we say yes when we really should say no.”
  • Flexing Schedule - “It starts with looking at the whole schedule- if I have a late-afternoon meeting, I’ll try to lighten up the day. I’ve learned that I can’t do six appointments every day, so it starts with lightening up the schedule.”
  • Using Technology / Zoom - “I don’t think that we’re ever really going back to full-on in-person meetings - Zoom makes some things much easier and more efficient for me and my staff.

Here’s how Rachel likes to spend her 25th Hour:

  • Relaxing - “The biggest thing now is relaxing and working on myself - I’m enjoying being a mom and being there for the people I love.”
