Whether or not you enjoy this 1989 movie depends on your tolerance for heavy handed nostalgia and sentimentality. If it's as lovely and heartfelt and had Kevin Costner at his most charming you can get away with an awful lot of schmaltz. There's plenty of corn to be had both in the literal and figurative sense in Field of Dreams, the question is can this movie still raise a lump in a modern cynic's throat? I'm not disposed to cynicism so I that's a question for someone else. All I know is that by the time the line, "Hey Dad, wanna have a catch?" is uttered I'm swallowing hard. I think Collin might agree.
