Love Island is back on our screens and as usual there is the same questions being asked about the prospects for the women of colour on the show but especially the black women. Not only are they picked last but there chances of winning such a show seem to diminish by the hour. This is made worse by the fact that they find themselves not being the option of choice not only for the white guys which you could argue is understandable but also by there black male counter parts who tend to select either the white or lighter skinned females on the show. So is love island a setup and does it do black women a disservice that not only enforces widely held stereotypes but also impacts the confidence of the many women out there with dark skin and black features or is it that the shows selection of black women are just not fit for purpose in a competitive environment.
