Session Description: The vast opportunities that children have in today’s online world come with a number of benefits and risks. This session will help adults mitigate those risks and protect children in the online space. Learn about the dangers online, how to monitor online activity and how to help your child make safe and responsible decisions.
Presenter: Detective David Feyen, EFCE, CCME, ACE, CBE
Det. David Feyen is a 22-year law enforcement professional. During his career, Det. Feyen held several assignments to include that of a field training officer, a certified Use of Force Instructor, Firearms instructor and a member of the Tactical Unit. Upon being promoted to the rank of Detective in 2011, Det. Feyen took over responsibility for investigating motor vehicle thefts in the City of Waukesha and received specialized training in fire investigations.
Det. Feyen then began to specialize in investigations involving internet-based crimes including crimes against children. As a part of the WI Dept of Justice ICAC Task Force, he regularly investigates Cybertipline reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) of child sexual exploitation. He also conducts undercover operations to detect and apprehend suspects who use the internet to target children.
He has given numerous presentations to civic groups and local schools on how to safeguard our children while they explore the internet. In 2014, he was named the co-recipient of the Waukesha Elk’s Club Police Officer of the Year for his work safeguarding children on-line.
He is also a member of the department’s Computer Forensic Unit. This unit processes all digital devices seized as evidence and recovers artifacts to present them as evidence in court. He undergoes continuous training and education to keep pace with the rapidly changing world of digital forensics.
