Welcome to Episode 28 of the This Was an Assignment Podcast. For this week’s episode we mixed things up a bit! I had the opportunity (I use that word loosely) to go on a 4 day backpacking/survival trip with my dad, Chad Woolley, and my brother-in-law, Trent Park. We decided to test our grit against the sometimes very unforgiving Uinta mountains. We met at Christmas Meadows Wednesday evening, where we dropped off a truck. Then our driver, JP, took us to the Highline Trailhead. It was there that our adventure began. We hiked from there to Jordan Lake, stayed a night, and then did some “Back Country Chaddin” and hiked towards Rocky Sea Pass. Once over the pass, we hiked to Black Lake, where we caught some fish and enjoyed a night. Saturday morning, we woke up, caught more fish, then hiked to Lightning Lake. It was there that we had lunch, and sized up the hardest part of the weekend: “Bad Ass Pass”. After a good 3 hours, we finally made it over the pass into Amethyst Basin, and stayed our last night. After that, we woke up and hiked another 6ish miles out, to Christmas Meadows, where our trusty truck awaited our arrival. It was an incredible journey. Throughout the journey we recorded snippets for the podcast, telling what we did and how it went. I hope you enjoy!
