Episode 28 - Thanksgiving "Double Take"

Listen Later

At the Thanksgiving table my answer to what I'm thankful for made everyone present scowl in a "double take"

In this episode, Andrew unpacks these three verses written by the Apostle Paul:

1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NIV) 16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

We explore what it means to step into joy by praying continually and giving thanks in all circumstances.  In order to do this, we must also keep a long view of time and a high view of sovereignty.  This podcast really challenges us to embrace suffering as a part of our Christian journey.

Other scriptures used:

In 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV) the Apostle Paul quotes Jesus… 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Romans 5:3–4 (NIV)  3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.

John 16:33 (NIV) 33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Philippians 3:10–11 (NIV)  10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.

2 Corinthians 4:16–18 (NIV) 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
