Enterprise Tech India - Unplugged

Episode 29: ETI-Unplugged: Episode 29: Project Management is dead - long live Project Management!

Listen Later

Kumaran, Deepak, Ram, Venkat and Nishanth discuss, is Agile really replacing project management? With never ending cycles, do we even have anything called a traditional project which starts and ends? Agile has enabled more engagement with business. Business is beginning to accept small failures. Now it is more about managing resources rather than projects. Does empowerment of engineers help with the quality of output? Since the outcome is so unpredictable - what happens to delivery timelines? Customer also need to understand the change from waterfall to Agile. What are the pitfalls of all of the team playing project manager? Projects have become MVPs (Minimum Viable Products). If you cannot predictably manage your work for two weeks, you have no idea of what you are doing. 80% of the project fail to deliver. Project Management as a concept has failed - because it has failed to deal with reality. There is a need to move from project management to release management. It is about delivering on commitment. Digital Technologies today enable us to do MVPs in almost any field, including brain surgery. Acknowledging failure explicitly is path towards delivering on commitments.
