In Episode 29 Lynn Morstead and Kelli Soika interview Clay Zdobylak.

Clay covers a lot of ground for us in this interview:

  • Clay has identified a link between communitarianism and cohousing ... we wanted to know what "communitarianism" is and how he he sees aspects of this in cohousing.
  • Wikipedia says: "Communitarianism is a philosophy that emphasizes the connection between the individual and the community. Its overriding philosophy is based upon the belief that a person's social identity and personality are largely molded by community relationships, with a smaller degree of development being placed on individualism."
  • But Clay can explain it in terms that actually mean something to a non-academic
  • He shares experiences he's had that illustrate this ideal
  • Where our cohousing project is living this out in the form of:
    • Shared vision & culture
    • Shared common space (digital for now)
    • Practicing direct democracy
  • He wraps it up with two compelling reasons why he and his wife are drawn to cohousing.

Makes us think of the Simon and Garfunkel words "Slow down, you move too fast You got to make the morning last  /   Hello lamppost, what'cha knowing, I've come to watch your flowers growin'"
