The judge, unhappy with the theatrics of Evan’s trial, sentences him to a year at St. Joseph’s Non-Catholic School for Disobedient Children—the same reform school Evan’s troublemaking cousin wound up in a few years back. Perturbed, Evan recalls how that school turned his cousin into a zombie, and after a hulking “Bodyguard” arrives with the school’s enormous Pupil Manual, Evan quickly realizes the place is more threatening than anything he imagined. With his departure looming, he decides to bring his journal with him, hoping his writing will one day expose the truth about St. Joseph’s.
