Hello everyone, it's been a while since I've done this, so please go easy on me if I'm a little stale. On this latest podcast episode, I talk about the 2017 film, First Reformed. It is a psychological drama, written and directed by Paul Schrader, who is mostly known for writing several Martin Scorsese classics such as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and the Last Temptation of Christ.
First reformed is the story of a Pastor of a small Protestant Church located Snowbridge, New York who struggles with maintaining his Faith in God while serving as the role of an observer to the very destruction of a world he no longer believes is capable of forgiveness. I'd like to mention that in watching this film, I couldn't help but see comparisons between it and the 1963 Ingmar Bergman film Winter Light, which also focuses on the inner journey of a Pastor struggling with the silence of the cosmos in very trying times. First Reformed does something similar as it places the Pastor, played brilliantly by Ethan Hawke in the midst of the global warming discussion we are still having when it seems pretty clear as to why the big boys in Washington are ignoring it, while Winter Light focused more on the threat of Nuclear Annihilation.
Both are great films, and I'll post links down below to the trailers of both films, including several others pertaining to Schrader's works, as well as a link to my Patreon. For those of you unfamiliar, Patreon is a crowd-funding platform which for a small donation of a dollar per video, can help this channel grow eventually to the point where I can start giving out rewards for your contributions. I hope you all enjoy this latest episode of Films For Thought because in all sincerity, I do wish to commit more to this because I do enjoy talking about films and sharing my love and intellectual appreciation for them with anyone listening. So please, sit back, and enjoy the show.
Sincerely,
Andres
