She shares her learning about the effects of childhood trauma - taking what we know about brain development (bottom to top, back to front) and how trauma interrupts the sequential development of the brain. Bruce Perry's model helps identify areas of strength and areas for improvement and gives specific methods of intervening. Covid and remote learning have posed a challenge to teachers this year. Teachers across the country are experiencing the same problems. Students need help building peer relationships and negotiating typical issues of that. They need structure to learn to interact appropriately - modeling, role playing and direct teaching. To make a more permanent change, students need to practice a new behavior 20-30 repetitions to really learn.
