Questions to ask when examining a food scene in a story (novel, short story, play, etc):

1. Who all is sharing in the meal together?


2. What is the meal being shared? 


3. Where are they eating?


4.  What else is happening at this meal besides eating?


5. What else is being consumed besides the actual food? What else is being shared? What details within the scene make you think this?


6. Finally, what other stories sound similar to this one, and how might putting the two side by side help you discover something new or make new meaning come to bear?
