Things That Shape Us

Episode 30 - Empathy On Screen

Listen Later

Welcome to the Things That Shape Us podcast. My name is Jonathan Wymer and I'm joined by James Gary to discuss a various range of subjects that are all related to one idea: How those things shape our lives.

In this episode,
James and I discuss ONE THING that shaped our lives. Whether on Instagram or in the auditorium at a movie theatre, we're all learning to empathize with others on screens. The ability to feel and understand someone else's pain, joy, confusion or enlightenment, is an incredible ability that we all possess. But are there limits to this? Or constraints? James and I share a few anecdotes of how we've been impacted by stories (whether fictional or in real life) that have shaped the way we feel empathy for those around us. We trail a bit in the direction of understanding the effects of screen-time, but inevitably circle back to realize that we're always empathizing with others, in person or virtually.
