Sofia chats with the TERRIFIC theatre reporter and journalist Frank DiLella of Spectrum News NY1!!! Frank became the official theatre news reporter for NY1 in 2004, beginning his program NY1 “On Stage” and receiving critical acclaim for his celebrity interviews. He is also known for his interview show “Show Biz After Hours”. A few of his guests have included Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bernadette Peters, Patti Lupone and Nathan Lane. Frank has won the Emmy Award for best News Magazine Program for his special about the hit musical Come From Away. Over the years, Frank has been a contributing correspondent for the Tony Awards and the Olivier Awards, as well as a theatre correspondent for BBC, CBS, CTV, The American Theatre Wing and Sirius XM. He has also travelled internationally to cover the theatre scene in Japan, Hong Kong, England, Scotland, Germany, and Canada. Frank is an adjunct professor of theatre journalism at Fordham University. Frank and I discuss his all-time favorite musicals, the origins of his NY1 “On Stage” show, his path from aspiring actor to successful reporter, the making of his documentary about Come From Away, memories of Elaine Stritch and more! Frank’s knowledge about and devotion to the world of theatre are astounding, and I loved chatting with him about his musical obsessions and path to reporting stardom. You can watch Frank’s NY1 “On Stage” segments online and on television.
