Listen Later

Roberto Riggio is one of the most versatile Violinists in Austin, TX. When he was a boy he imagined himself to be Beethoven. Like Beethoven he set out on a quest to expand his musical vocabulary. He has studied and mastered Classical, Mariachi, Gypsy, Middle Eastern, and Indian ways of playing the instrument. Very few violinists in Texas have had the variety of experience that he has had. Andrew knows him from his weekly World Jazz Jam at halcyon Coffee House, playing together in Oliver Rajamani's band, the Mondsee Orchestra, and his fabulous band Atash. He recently became the director of the Bereket Middle Eastern Music Ensemble at The University of Texas at Austin, Andrew's Alma Matter. Roberto explains his rich and long musical journey in this episode. We also Perform a two part counterpoint and a classical jam in the style of a two part counterpoint. Enjoy the Cathedral-like reverb.
