The early '80s saw a surge of imitations following the success of George Miller's initial two Mad Max films. Primarily originating from Italy, these movies attempted to replicate the distinctive post-punk petrolhead style portrayed in Miller's works. Featuring warlords sporting Mohawks and engaging in dune buggy collisions within the Spanish desert, some of these films did manage to provide enjoyable and affordable entertainment for the enthusiastic '80s audience, eager to make use of their newly acquired VCRs. However, despite their efforts, these imitations fell short in comparison to Miller's exceptional craftsmanship. Yet, there was another crucial aspect that set them apart: their lack of Australian essence.
