In the late 1990s, Chelsea went from a run of the mill Premier League team deprived of success to a cosmopolitan, trophy-laden outfit packed with superstars. Under Gianluca Vialli, they threatened to disrupt the established order of the English league. Then, just as quickly, Vialli was sacked and it was over. But during those years under both Vialli and Ruud Gullit, the groundwork was laid to make Chelsea attractive to foreign investors.
