Change is inevitable. Resets are unavoidable. Starting over is a necessary part of life. It might be a new relationship, a new job, a new place to live, a new grade in school, a new phase in life, or something else that is different from that to which we are accustomed. With new beginnings, new territory, new circumstances, new people, new experiences, new expectations comes uncertainty. And with uncertainty, often there is insecurity. Even good changes can be uncomfortable and scary.

 

We explore ways to start over. In this context we discuss the Old Testament notion of the “Year of Jubilee” during which all the people and even the land had the chance to rest, reset and start over. Scriptures referenced include Isaiah 43:18-19; Exodus 5; Lamentations 3:22-23; John 5:6; Leviticus 25:9, 23-55; Romans 8:2; Galatians 5:1; Galatians 3:22; Colossians 2:13-14; Hebrews 4:9-10; and 2 Timothy 1:7, 9.
