The Arecibo Observatory is an observatory in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, also known as the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center (NAIC). It is owned by the US National Science Foundation (NSF).
On December 1, 2020 it suffered a third and final catastrophic failure and the observation deck crashed down through the radar dish, putting an exclamation point to the end of its 57 years of service.
