Show Notes

The Impact

-James has a unique situation. Because he was working from home previous to the pandemic and is fortunate enough to continue to work, his daily life hasn’t shifted too greatly.

-He realizes the enormous impact the situation has on co-workers and clients, so encourages everyone to act with compassion and empathy, even if your day-to-day hasn’t been severely affected.

Continuing to Sell

-If your business is able to be conducted as usual, despite the pandemic at hand, do not expect your salespeople to pretend everything is the same and sell the same volume.

-Never use this situation as a means to make your company look better by acting like the hero. There is a sweet spot that exists in the middle ground between exploiting and acting like nothing is happening.

-Expect your approach to change daily and rapidly as the situation evolves. Adapt and pivot like the great salesperson you are.

You Don’t Like Your Job

-James spent years working in jobs he knew he didn’t like, but continued because he was too scared to leave. It comes down to realizing you’re not doing anyone any favors by sticking around when your heart’s not in it.

-Have self awareness, be able to come to terms with the fact that you might have made a bad decision, and have the courage to move on from it.

-You’ll never be able to know everything about a company from the interview process. While you can’t control what they don’t tell you, you can control whether or not you decide to stay.

You’re a Risk?

-Between wireless retail sales, inside sales, and physician sales, James has jumped between industries and positions classifying him to future employers as a possible risk. He decided to keep away from corporate and invest in his personal brand.

-Building a personal brand and network is one of the most important things a business professional can do. It doesn’t need to be through video or podcasts, just make yourself visible and share your thoughts.
