On today's episode of Barstool Bench Mob, we recap the final weekend before Selection Sunday starting with Sunday's slate starting with a big-time upset by the red-hot Michigan State Spartans over #2 Michigan (02:13). Does the win put Sparty into the field of 68? Also Sunday, Baylor continues their dominance, this time blowing out Texas Tech (05:57). How worried should we be about Texas Tech? We move onto Iowa's win over Wisconsin (10:14) and have a surprise postgame call from Hawkeyes' guard and recurring guest Jordan Bohannon (14:13). Rico, Marty, and Jake then touch on the Missouri Valley Conference championship and the return of Sister Jean to the big dance (26:00).
On Saturday, Illinois took down Ohio State (36:23). Did the win secure a #1 seed for the Illini? And the Bench Mob gives Oklahoma State some love after their big road win over West Virginia without Cade Cunningham and Isaac Likekele (41:39). Plus - who is going to win the Big East tournament? The guys hit on Providence's win over a banged up Villanova team (47:37) as well as the tough situation surrounding Creighton and coach Greg McDermott (52:34).
We've got two interviews this week. First - Preston Spradlin, head coach of the OVC Champion Morehead State Eagles, calls in from the bus on the way back to campus just hours after cutting down the nets. Coach Spradlin talks about how it feels to be the first team to punch a ticket to the NCAA Tournament, how the Eagles took down conference favorites Belmont and how he incorporates movie clips into his game film sessions (55:04).
Then - we welcome Fox Sports analyst and former head coach Steve Lavin to the Mob. Coach Lavin talks about life as a head coach on both the east and west coasts, his potential interest in a return to coaching, and his favorite and sleeper teams to cut down the nets in Indianapolis (01:15:10).
We wrap up the show with Marty's Duke Minute (01:54:22) and Beating the Buzzer (02:02:30).
