Listen Later

Bring on the Monstersongs! Sofia chats with the EXTRAORDINARY composer, lyricist, performer, music director and educator Rob Rokicki (The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, Monstersongs, Strange Tails, Relativity)!!! Rob is best known for writing the music and lyrics of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, which was nominated for three Drama Desk Awards, an Off-Broadway Alliance Award, and a Lucille Lortel Award, and Monstersongs, which has been adapted into a graphic novel by Dave O’Neill.  He has also written the musicals Relativity, Strange Tails, Martha and Me, Gingerbread House: A Movie Musical, and Love NY. The North American tour of The Lightning Thief begins in 2019. Monstersongs is currently set to play at the National Alliance of Musical Theatre on October 25th and 26th and at The Other Palace in London this November. Rob is a 2018 Jonathan Larson Grant Finalist and alum of the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop. He is also an adjunct instructor at CAP 21 Conservatory & Theatre Company. Rob and I discuss his songwriting process for The Lightning Thief and Monstersongs, his longtime obsession with Greek mythology, his acting debut in a show about bug rights, the thrilling development of “Drowned Rat: The Musical” and more! Rob is such a nice and hilarious guy, and I loved hearing about his origins as a songwriter as well as his songwriting process for The Lightning Thief and Monstersongs. Be sure to catch the new productions of The Lightning Thief on tour, Monstersongs at the National Alliance of Musical Theatre next week and at The Other Palace in November!
